Peter McNally presently serves as the Executive Director of the New York State Federation of School Administrators ( NYSFSA ). In addition, Mr. McNally served as President of the NYS Federation of School Administrators (NYSFSA ) from 2006 to 2012 and also serves as Chairman of the NYS Administrators Consortium(NYSSAC), two groups that lobby Albany on behalf of administrators and supervisors statewide. From January 2009 through June 2010, he served on the NYSED Cohesive Leadership Committee. He serves on the NYSED Task Force on Principal/Teacher Effectiveness since September, 2010. In July, 2012, Peter was elected as a Vice President of the American Federation of School Administrators (AFSA) at their Triennial convention in Puerto Rico.
Peter served as Executive Vice President of CSA since November 2006 after nearly six years of service as the union’s First Vice President. Prior to his election as First Vice President in 2000, he served for nine years on the Executive Board of the NYC Elementary School Principals Association (NYCESPA), two as the Vice President. As an Elementary School Principal for 23 years,, Mr. McNally realized the importance of ongoing professional development for supervisors and administrators in affecting student achievement, and at CSA he continues to be involved in the union’s professional development branch, the Executive Leadership Institute. He also served as a Trustee of the CSA Welfare Fund. He was a member of the August 2011 graduating class of the NYS AFL-CIO/Cornell Advanced Union Leadership Institute.
Mr. McNally’s teaching career began in general education in 1976 after which he worked with children with emotional problems. He also worked as a teacher trainer and then a Supervisor of Special Education in District 24 for four years before his appointment as Principal of PS 229, D. 24, Queens in 1989.
Prior to his election as First Vice President in 2000, he served for nine years on the Executive Board of the NYC Elementary School Principals Association (NYCESPA), two as their Vice President.
Mr. McNally has received numerous awards including the NYC Board of Education for District 24 “Educator of the Year” Award, the St. John’s University Phi Delta Kappa “Educator of the Year” Award and the NYC Department of Education‘s Emerald Society Pro Deo et Patria Award .
Over the years, Mr. McNally has made many presentations to state and national organizations including at several annual conventions of the National Association of Elementary School Principals and PBS Celebration of Teaching and Learning. He is a member of the Advisory committee for the Celebration of Teaching and Learning since its inception in 2005 . He was a member of the Executive Committee of the Principal Leadership Network at Brown University/US DOE Northeast Regional Lab for five years, and was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the School Leaders Network from 2006 to 2012 and remains as a Board member presently. A native of Queens, Mr. McNally received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Queens College and his Professional Diploma from Fordham University.
Peter is also a Trustee of the Grand Council of United Emerald Societies and Second Vice President of the NYCDOE Emerald Society.
